Call of Duty 2019 release date, platform and gameplay rumours

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has only been around for a few months, but we’re already looking ahead to 2019’s Call of Duty title. While the game is yet to be officially revealed, we know that it’s in development by the team at Infinity Ward right now and will be released later this year. Recent rumours also suggest that this year’s Call of Duty title will be a continuation of one of the all-time favourites.

When will the next Call of Duty be released?

While the 2019 entry to the Call of Duty series is yet to be revealed, it’s pretty easy to predict when it’ll be released. Why? Like clockwork, the previous six Call of Duty titles have all launched in October or November, and we can’t see any reason why Activision would change things this time around.


In fact, with the exception of 2018’s Black Ops 4, previous Call of Duty titles have all launched in the first week of November. Will it be the same this year? We’ll have to wait for Activision to announce details later on in the year.

Which platforms will this year’s Call of Duty be available on?

We’re fairly confident that when the upcoming title is released later this year, it’ll be available for PS4, Xbox One and PC, as with previous releases.

Will it be the year that Call of Duty comes to the Nintendo Switch? We’re quietly hopeful based on the assumption that development of the 2019 title started post-Switch release in 2017, allowing devs to properly integrate the hybrid console into the line-up, but there’s nothing to confirm this suspicion just yet.

Who is developing this year’s Call of Duty title?

While that is an odd question to ask about most game franchises, most Call of Duty fans will be aware that Activision has three studios working on Call of Duty titles at any one time, with each taking turns to launch on a three-year cycle.

This year’s Call of Duty title is being developed by Infinity Ward, following Sledgehammer’s CoD: WW2 in 2017 and Treyarch’s CoD: Black Ops 4 in 2018.

Call of Duty 2019 gameplay rumours

While the game is yet to be revealed, rumours seem to reveal a handful of features about 2019’s Call of Duty title.

Will there be a single-player campaign?

With 2018’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 ditching the traditional single-player campaign in favour of a variety of online game modes (including the now-famous Blackout BR mode), will the 2019 title follow suit?


Apparently not, if a 2018 job listing for Infinity Ward is anything to go by. The listing shows the company were on the lookout for temporary designers of single player experiences, suggesting that there will be one in IW’s upcoming Call of Duty title.
We don’t know much beyond that, but given Infinity Ward’s previous success with Modern Warfare 3 and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, it’s safe to assume there will be an epic campaign in 2019’s title.

Will COD 2019 be Modern Warfare 4?

Nothing is official just yet, Matt Harris - who had a hit-and-miss track record with Black Ops 4 leaks – claims that Infinity Ward is working on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The information seems to come via the now-edited Twitter bio of Craig Fairbrass, which originally claimed he’d worked on Call of Duty Modern Warfare 1/2/3/4. The voice actor claims that there was “a bit of confusion and over reaction” over the apparent mistake.

This lines up with information from charlie INTEL sources about the upcoming title, with the site claiming that several ex-Infinity Ward developers have recently returned to the team and speculating that MW4 could bring a more OG Call of Duty feel.
